Makhambet Utemisov (1803-1846) was Kazakh poet, participant of peasant revolt under the direction of I. Taimanov. Songs and poems, which called for struggle against the tyranny of khans and czar’s officials.

Averse: State Emblem of Kazakhstan against ornamental background; face value of the coin “50 TENGE”;  legend in Kazakh “NATIONAL BANK OF KAZAKHSTAN”.

Reverse: official emblem of celebration of 200th anniversary of Makhambet Utemisov; trade mark of Kazakhstan Mint, “2003” means the year of coinage, National Bank of Kazakhstan logo.
